Sandra BassettAre you interested in learning how Motown influenced the Civil Rights Movement? Sandra Bassett will be offering that insight on Saturday, Feb. 28, 1 p.m. Sandra will discuss the following: The cause-and-effect of key Civil Rights movements alongside Motown hits; Motown’s “playbook” such as quality control, artist development and image strategy and finally how the two influences opened segregated stages and airwaves.

Motown & Civil Rights will be a high-energy, lecture-performance that will turn this history into a “felt’ experience for the audience. The class will be a combination of crisp storytelling, producer-level pacing, and short live vocal tags. You will leave informed, inspired, and humming with a new understanding of how disciplined artistry can drive social change.

Sandra Bassett is Detroit-born and stage-seasoned. She is a vocalist, band leader and arts advocate. Her 60-minute presentation will highlight how Motown didn’t just “soundtrack” the era; it broke segregation’s “gatekeeping” by integrating radio, TV and concert halls.
