LLL is pleased to present a presentation providing an introduction to the Casa Grande Border Patrol Station, its area of responsibility, and key operations. On Monday, Jan. 26, 10 a.m., Robert Gumtrow and Alex Chaparro will discuss the station’s jurisdiction within the Tohono O'odham Nation, the challenges of patrolling remote desert terrain, and the tools utilized to accomplish the mission. The presentation will also cover how agents combat transnational criminal organizations through targeted enforcement, technology, and strong community partnerships.
Robert Gumtrow is the Supervisory Agent with oversight of the Casa Grande Station Border Community Liaison Office and the Small Unmanned Aircraft Systems Unit. Agent Gumtow began his career with Border Patrol in 2002, assigned to the Casa Grande Border Patrol Station, Tucson sector. He has held numerous interesting and challenging roles, received the U.S. Department of the Interior Secretary’s Award for Partners in Conservation, and holds associate degrees in liberal arts and criminal justice.
Alex Chaparro is the Border Community Liaison for the Casa Grande Border Patrol Station in Arizona. Agent Chaparro began his career with Border Patrol in 2003, assigned to the Casa Grande Border Patrol Station, Tucson sector. In addition to his current role wherein he liaises with the Tohono O’odham Nation and other outlying communities, he has many other responsibilities as: the Android Team Awareness Kit Coordinator, Explorer Advisor, a member of the Oral Hiring Board, a Fitness Coordinator, a Health & Safety Officer, and a Union Steward. He holds instructor certifications in Less-Lethal Tactics, Individual First Aid, and CPR.
This will be a very interesting and informative presentation with opportunity to ask questions and engage in interactive discussion.
New Hearing Assist System in Renaissance Theater: The new system uses a small battery pack and a neck loop which will work with T-Coil enabled hearing aids. You can check out a battery pack and neck loop for each Speaker Series from a LifeLong Learning volunteer in the Lobby. A personal identification card is required. The battery pack and neck loop must be returned to a volunteer after each performance. Speak to a Lobby volunteer for assistance.
Tickets go on sale at 9 a.m. in the Lobby of the Renaissance Theater and are $5 at the door. No registration is required. To avoid disruptions to the audience and speaker, please plan to be in your seat before 10 a.m.
